OK here we go :

i want to use the link-type article so the featured image thumbnail features a link icon, so the links can be differentiated from other articles posts.

i also use embed.ly so i can embed links in the articles elegantly and automatically with the image associated with the original post.

thus, i wanted to hide the featured image since there is already an image in the post.

But this doesn't work with the link-type article even if the option is offered in your theme. 

i understand that maybe for most people using image/video/etc article type you dont want to hide the featured image, but in my case i would like to...

So i was wondering if it was possible to make it work !

ok i understand. but if you have a simple fix to suggest i would appreciate. i use the link article type for external link articles, with embed.ly so i have already an image included in the post. i plan to use the same image as featured image so i can have a thumbnail in other views, but wish to avoid to have 2 times the images in the body of the post..

here i used the strandard type to hide the featured image. the goal to use the link articles is to have the overlay link icon over the thumbnail so users know what to expect from the post.

The option to hide the featured image for blog themes 1 and 2 are only working for standard articles. well at least it doesn't work for link articles. Of course it would be nice to fix this so it works with all types of articles. thanks !
