\You can check update changes log for this theme here - if you want to use any new features in the latest version of this theme, let's update it - If not, don't need to update & ignore it.

Am I required to update the theme? Will the theme not function correctly without this update?
I ask because when I activated another theme and then went back to this theme the footer was missing the widgets from footer column #1 and I'd like to avoid having to do more customizing or redo my customizing unless I absolutely have to.

And the updates doesn't affect anything to your Customize > Custom CSS.

I received notice that an update was available for Soledad theme. When I log into Envato I am given the option to download Soledad again. How do I go about updating my theme? Also, will it change/affect my customization and custom CSS codes?
