It seems you've enabled lazyload images from a plugin like Jetpack or another lazyload image plugin.
Let's check and disable it because the theme already supports for lazyload images.

Beginning yesterday after some messing around on my side with performance plugins, the homepage images won't load when logging in.
I've removed any new plugins and reset all settings. Fortunately, there is no issue when logged out or on any other pages. Nevertheless, I need to make some major structural changes to the homepage and can't preview in the customizer
