Hi,
1/ No - the updates doesn't affect to your current config.
2/ You can use Visual Composer and config the page like the way you want - don't need to use template. If you want to use templates from Visual Composer, you need to buy license for it. With our extended license, we just can give you license to use this plugin legal.

I have the plugin but it will not let me use the templates without activation

Yes I did read this. My question is if i REINSTALL all files and documentation, would that take away everything i've done on my current website? All I have installed in wordpress is the wordpress installation file plus the visual composer plugin separately.

This is the message I just saw in my wordpress. What do I need to do? I did not install "all files and documentation" initially. After that, I went back and installed the Visual Composer ZIP file separately from the files.
"Hola! Would you like to receive automatic updates and unlock premium support? Please activate your copy of WPBakery Page Builder."
What do I do now?
