You can use featured categories to pick the posts you want to display on the slider.

OK I figured that out. I now need to figure out how to make sure the same posts don't show up right below the slider. Very redundant.

Great now how do I customize what shows up in the sliding image at the top? Having a hard time figuring that out.

I want to make my blog look like this one:

So far mine has a lot of information on it and I made a lot of changes, but I like the 3 logos at the top of the demo one. And the sidebar is similar to mine. If it is easy to make changes to that then I'd like to move forward with importing this particular setup. How do I go about doing that?
