If you want to do that, you should set a background for your header.
You can set a background for your header via Customize > Colors for Header > Header Background Image.

I would like the header image which consists of the name and an illustration to extend from corner to corner at the top of the blog. Is this achievable by scaling the image size up or can I do it directly from the customization options. Thanks
