Hi,

Please go to Appearance → Customize → Custom CSS then add the following custom CSS code:

/* change the single portfolio background */
body.single-portfolio #main {
    background-color: #f1f1f1;     padding: 30px;
}
/* change the archive portfolio background */
body.archive.tax-portfolio-category #main {
    background-color: #f1f1f1;
    padding: 30px;
}
