So we tested as you suggested and found that there was a conflict in pencil performance speed optimization.
We had disabled Jquery migrate and the front end submissions plugin will not work without it - something to note for others that might have disabled jquery migrate.

Hi,
We've identified that one of your installed plugins has interfered with the JavaScript click events on your frontend. As a result, links on your website are not functioning as expected.
To troubleshoot this, please disable all plugins (except for the ones that come with the Soledad theme) and then reactivate them one by one. This will help you identify which plugin is causing the issue.

front end post submisson can seem to add image to post... also are the categories and tags ajax searchable or how do you find them?
