Hi. These codes you gave don't change anything. The text is still inside a white box.

Instead, how do I just add text underneath the image??

Please try add more this code to Customize > Custom CSS to do that:

ul.homepage-featured-boxes .penci-fea-in h4 span span{ background: none; }

1/ To move the text appears at the bottom, please add more this code to Customize > Custom CSS:

\
ul.homepage-featured-boxes .penci-fea-in h4{ bottom: 0; top: auto; }

2/ This text here will follow the heading text, this theme doesn't supports for change the font for only here. We will consider to add more this feature in the future.

On the "homepage featured box text," how do you make it so the text appears at the bottom of the image and not in the center? And can you change the font for this also? I didn't see an option for these. Thanks
