Hi,

You don't lose any custom css you've put via Customize > Custom CSS when the theme updated. So, don't worry about this. Use child theme for your case is not needed

Conversation Start

If I add Custom CSS to my Soledad theme, will I lose that when the theme is updated? If so, then should I be creating a Child Theme? And if I'm supposed to create a Child Them, then how do I proceed?

I don't understand Child Themes, but have read about them. Thought I should ask before I get too deep into this.
