No - you don't. You can make that normal by drag & drop menu items via Appearance > Menus

Hello,
If I want to make a dropdown menu like in the attached picture, but then for my ABOUT page (with one option for instance :ABOUT THE SITE and the other OTHER THINGS I DO), how does this work? Because ABOUT is a static page, unlike the categories. Do I have to make a Category instead of a page of can I also create subpages for pages?
