Hi,
The 1st posts is "Standard Post" on your layout - so, please go to Customize > Standard & Classic Layout Options > and check to "Make "Continue Reading" is A Button"

Hi,
If you do using WPBakery to config your posts - you need to fill custom excerpt for all posts config by WPBakery Page Builder - because by Wordpress will remove all shortcodes from posts excerpt.
Check guide here to know how to add custom excerpt for posts.

Couple of issues on the homepage of our install:
I have "Make "Continue Reading" is A Button" checked but it's still showing as text with a line going through it on hover.
AND
Excerpt is not showing on some and on others it's displaying the visual composer shortcodes in the excerpt.
