Make sure that you don't use any plugin change order post.
Please try deactivate all plugin ( except plugin come from theme and try it again ). If it work, please enable each plugin to check what's caused by this issue.
If it still doesn't work, please send me your website management information ( admin url site, username and password ). I will check it help you.

thanks to the team so far, i've purchased the same theme for our second site.
i've just checked related posts at the bottom of the post, gone into customize > single post option > display posts by category
this seems to not be working at all, it shows the same posts at the bottom (which are clearly recent) and not 'related' how do i get it so the same category posts appear not recent.
