You can do that with Penci Slide plugin, however it has only two styles.
You can add custom images and URLs to the slider, not necessarily a new post.

Can you please help to explain how I can link the home page slider to my web pages rather than my latest posts? I really like the slider option, but would rather use it to show a nice image and a brief introduction to my menu pages rather than my latest posts. Thank you very much in advance for your help.
